Georgia Bulldogs: 2012 QB Prospect Greyson Lambert

Last year, all anyone could talk about was the quarterback position at Georgia. This season, with Aaron Murray firmly cemented as the starter, and Hutson Mason and Christian LeMay battling for the No. 2 spot, no one is sweating how things will pan out in 2011—at least not as much.

However, Georgia is always looking towards the future, and Greyson Lambert is a key target for 2012.

The Bulldogs extended an offer to the young man from Jesup, GA last November and, at that time, he was very excited to be extended the opportunity. Since then, his popularity has grown exponentially as Division I programs from all over the country have him on their radar.

Lambert is 6'5, 200, with a long, lean build. He's not quick on his feet—clocking in at just better than a 5.0 forty—but he has a strong pocket presence, a nice arm, and better than average field vision. When you couple all of those things with his towering 6'5" frame, you've got the makings of a potential star on your hands.

Wayne County High School is implementing a new offensive system this year in hopes of capitalizing on Lambert's passing ability, so he will be tossing the ball around a lot more in 2011—that should do a lot for him in terms of building up his stamina and overall accuracy. Last season he only averaged 8-10 passes per contest—his team's base offense was the 'Wing T'—so his arm didn't get much work.

That said, he still took a good bit of snaps from under center so he does have a fairly decent feel for making reads and going through progressions. His main focus this season will be on getting stronger, faster, and more accurate (as a junior, he completed 52 percent of his passes for 21 touchdowns and 1,991 yards).

Lambert expressed an early interest in the University of Alabama—both his parents were born there and he's familiar with the campus and the football program—but with interests from Auburn (his parent's alma mater), Clemson, and Georgia, he's keeping his options open.

According to his coach, Jody Grooms, Lambert would like to make a decision prior to the start of their team's season, but who knows if that will remain the case.

Georgia QB Prospect LeMay Gets Max Suspension—Will Appeal

According to the Charlotte Observer, Butler High School quarterback—and current Georgia Bulldog prospect—Christian LeMay was given the max level suspension for an offense he committed at the end of the 2009-10 school year. Although the offense has not been specified, his father Stacy LeMay has assured the public that it was merely a "youthful infraction" and did not include "drugs, weapons, or any form of violence".

The next step  in the process, naturally, will be an appeal of the suspension. LeMay's father feels that they have a good chance of seeing a "...favorable outcome" due to his son's prior track record as a non-disciplinary problem.

That said, if his appeal is denied, the young man would forego enrollment in the alternative school—which his father states is for "kids who have habitual behavioral problems"—in favor of finishing out his playing career at a private school in the area.

As of now, there is no reason to believe that LeMay will be denied entry into the University of Georgia and his father feels hopeful that his son will be ready to enroll in Athens in Spring 2011—as originally planned.

For now, the appeals process will be set into motion and likely will not be ruled on until the end of August—at which point, the next step will be determined.

The Butler High School Bulldogs are rated the No. 2 team in the nation by at least one poll and would like to defend their state championship this season. LeMay is the leader of this team and, said his coach, "We'll win a lot of games if Riley (LeMay's backup) has to start for us, but there's just no substitute for Christian's experience. It would be good for us if he were able to help us defend our state championship."

As Bernie Dawg points out, the pressure on the disciplinary committee could prove to be too much in this instance, especially given the relatively squeaky-clean image offered by LeMay up to this point. 

Georgia Continues to Load Up On Wide Receivers

The Georgia Bulldogs will spend the better part of the 2010 season in "hope" mode—as in, they are hoping that none of their six scholarship wide receivers are forced to miss any significant time due to injury or misbehavior.

The Bulldogs are frighteningly thin at wide receiver this year—even thinner when you consider the relative lack of production from the No. 2 spot in 2009. It's an area that is of minor concern to the fans and it has often sparked intelligent debate among those in the Bulldog Nation as to who will fill the shoes that Mohammed Massaquoi left behind in 2008.

That said, the team has been recruiting the position with ferocity this off-season and, as of June 4th, Georgia received it's third wide receiver commitment for 2011. Zach Witchett, another talented in-state product, has made it known that he will be signing with the Bulldogs in 2011—joining Chris Conley and Justin Scott-Wesley on the early-commit train.

Witchett is a 6'0", 186 pound, blend of speed (he runs a 4.43 forty) and athleticism. He adjusts to the ball well in the air and has good long speed for the deep ball. He will definitely bring a nice batch of skills to Georgia—including the ability to play defensive back (although that seems unlikely at the moment).

Georgia isn't going to sign too many more receivers for 2011 (they should cap out at four or five), but two guys do remain a huge possibility—Damian Swann (who has Georgia in his top 5) and Charone Peake (who many feel will either choose either Georgia or Clemson)—both have connections to current Georgia pledges.

Swann has been lobbied by Witchett and Peake has been in contact with Georgia QB commit, Christian LeMay.

For now, the program can relish in receiving its tenth commitment of the year.
